Being someone who has battled my weight my entire life, believe me being pushed into exercise was not the solution for me. But when I came to the decision on my own and started because I wanted to and was ready to, that was when I stuck with it and found the joy in it.
Over the years I have been a bike rider, a jogger, a skier, I have belonged to a gym, I have taken aerobics classes, worked out with a personal trainer, walked a half-marathon and hiked some beautiful terrain in Colorado. And during all of those times what inspired me to first try and then to continue was the feeling of accomplishment. Knowing that in spite of my size, I was able to participate in something that made me feel good about me.
Now I admit that I continue to battle with my weight and currently I am not as active as I would like to be, but I am not giving up. I am going to find something that gets me moving again and if that results in losing a few pounds great! But if it doesn’t that’s okay too, because being active should not be a short term goal to losing 10 pounds, but rather a long term goal to keep your body moving the best that it can.
So to answer the original question, it is the sense of accomplishment I feel that keeps me striving to be active. What about you? Share with me what motivates you to be an active woman. I would love to hear about your favorite activities and what inspires you.
