Plus size clothing highlight: Fine Gauge Pointelle Cardigan

Dressing for spring can be difficult. When temperatures vary wildly from day to day, it’s tough to know whether to grab a jacket or a t-shirt as you head out the door. This is the time of year when you really appreciate the versatility of a good, midweight layering piece like our Fine Gauge Pointelle Cardigan.

The fine-gauge cotton of this sweater-style top is endlessly soft and smooth to the touch, with a lovely, intricate pointelle knit pattern on the shawl collar. Textured ruffles down the center front and hem create an elegant look, and handy front pockets make this cardigan as functional as it is fashionable. This versatile piece makes a perfect complement to a semi-dressy outfit or a quick throw-on for a chilly morning stroll.

Junonia Mailbag: Solutions for larger sized women

Hi Anne,

I just found out Queen
Victoria had a 66" bust and 50" waist, which means I am exactly her measurements, if not her height (she was 5', I am 5'9"). Thank you for what you do. You are the go-to for super sizes, and I pray you will never drop your 4-6X lines. We goddesses need you. – Debra

I wear size 4X-5X and have been working on losing weight. Your workout clothing and plus sizes are what we plus size women have longed for in today's age of 'skinny' workout clothes! – Tracy

Dear Debra and Tracy,

Thanks for your encouraging words. It really is too bad that even within the plus size clothing world – an underserved community in the first place – there are subsets of women who still can’t easily find comfortable, quality clothing designed with their bodies in mind. From the beginning, I made it a personal goal that Junonia would do its best to provide for women who’d previously been told there just weren’t any options available for them.

Last spring, Junonia introduced the Junoesque catalog, a collection of casual styles for plus size women who wear sizes 4X-6X. Customer response was overwhelmingly positive, and over the past year we’ve had a lot of requests to keep putting out catalogs focused on our larger sizes.

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve taken it one step further by creating a permanent Junoesque department on our homepage! Our Junoesque styles are designed according to larger size specs, creating stylish, functional clothing that suits your body. Check out our newest department today to browse dozens of casual, swim and active items for all of our 4X, 5X and 6X fans.

Thanks for reading, and keep those letters coming!

Plus size clothing highlight: Cloudburst Rain Jacket

Spring is on the horizon, and it can't come soon enough for us Northerners. As snow fades into memory, rain becomes the precipitation of the moment, and that means it's time to turn our attention to plus size rain coats. Rain gear is one of those basic wardrobe staples that can be frustratingly hard to find for full figured women. If you're a Junonia shopper, you know that's just the kind of challenge we love.

Junonia's perennially popular Cloudburst Rain Jacket comes loaded with features. Sealed seams, zip pockets, an adjustable hood with brim and sturdy, waterproof nylon fabric make this long-lasting jacket a protective outerwear classic. Back vents with covered mesh and easily adjustable, Velcro-tabbed sleeves and drawcord hem move easily with your body. A strip of holographic trim on the back stands out for safe walking even on a dreary day. Don’t let those April showers catch you off guard!

Junonia mailbag: Thanks for using plus size models!

Dear Anne,

When I opened your new catalog that I received today, I was SO pleased that you actually use models who reflect what I might actually look like in your clothes. I am so tired of getting plus size catalogs with all the clothes modeled on size 10 or smaller models. What a wonderful treat to see such a great collection of clothes on "real" models. Thank you so much for actually being aware of your target consumers. I really appreciate it and wanted to let you know.

Sincerely,
Heidi

Hi Heidi,

Thanks for the compliments! This is actually one of the most frequent notes we receive from our customers. To me, it’s always seemed like common sense that clothing retailers should want to illustrate the fit and form of their apparel as accurately as possible, especially in a field as fit-sensitive as plus size apparel. Using models whose body types are similar to those of your customers is an important part of that.

If I order a shirt that looks great on a size 6 model in a catalog, then find it hangs entirely differently on my size 14 frame, you’d better believe I’ll be sending it back the next morning! I think most Junonia customers feel the same way, so it’s our responsibility to let our shoppers know just how our clothes will fit on their bodies.

I’m always delighted to hear that our customers love our models, because we do too. We take great care to hire some lovely and talented women, each with her own particular style. It might sound like a dream to get paid to wear top quality plus size clothing, but believe me – these ladies work hard at every photo shoot! The pictures you see in our catalogs represent a tiny fraction of the photos we take each season. Long hours of posing and clothing changes aren’t always fun, but we think the results are well worth it. It’s nice to know that our customers think so too.

Thanks much, and keep the letters coming!

Ask Junonia: What’s the secret to your comfy plus size fleece styles?

Dear Ms. Kelly,

Just got an order from Junonia and included were several Regal Fleece items. I bought two styles and they are a very nice, heavy, quality fleece. This is the third order I have made this winter to various companies to buy sweatshirts and I have had to return all of them because they were so puny. I needed winter-weight clothes, and it appears that these may do the trick. These are thick and luxurious. I am hoping that they hold up well after washing too. I'm excited.

It is also lovely to have some fun and brighter colors. I am sick to death of all the large size clothes that only come in teal, fuchsia and plum! I hope you will continue to carry this product and add a couple of dark colors to go with some snappy new colors for next winter. Thank you!

Best wishes,

Irene

Hi Irene,

Thanks for your kind words. I’m very glad that you’re so impressed with our Regal Fleece! Fleece apparel is always one of our most popular items in the fall and winter seasons, and we think this collection is our warmest and comfiest yet. In my thinking, ideal fleece apparel should be warm enough to wear outdoors in cold temperatures but not too warm to leave on in the house.

Plus size fleece can be especially tricky, because some companies just assume bigger is better when it comes to sweatshirts and the like. We know that our customers want fleece clothing that really fits without being too baggy or bulky, and we keep that idea in mind with all of our outerwear designs.

Thanks also for your color requests. We always like to hear those suggestions from our customers, as we strive to offer colors and styles that can’t be found just anywhere. I can’t guarantee just yet that we’ll have the dark colors you’re looking for, but I’ll add your idea to our workbook for our next collection.

Many thanks, and keep the questions coming,

Anne Kelly
